Copy Command

Overview

The “Copy Command” copies the selected objects to the clipboard so that they can be
placed again with the “Paste Command”. It can be used in the 3D view, the elevation view
and the plan view.

The command can be started in any of the following ways:

  1. Click the “Copy” button on the Modify panel of the Home tab.
  2. Press Ctrl+C.
  3. Enter “_CopyClip” in the prompt window.

Usage

Here is an explanation of how the “Copy Command” is typically used:

  1. Select the objects you want to copy. If objects are already selected when the command
is started, the selection prompt is skipped and the current selection is used.

  2. Select the objects when the prompt “Select objects to copy to clipboard.” is
    displayed.

  3. The number of objects that were copied is reported in the prompt window, for example
“3 object(s) copied to the clipboard.”.

Use the “Paste Command” to place the copied objects.

Notes

  • Only objects derived from IfcProduct that have an IfcLocalPlacement with an
IfcAxis2Placement3D can be copied. Any other object in the selection is skipped and
reported as “Skipped (not copyable): …”.
  • The clipboard data can only be pasted into the same file in the same session of the
application. It cannot be pasted into another file, into another running instance of
the application, or into another application.
  • When several objects are copied, the position of the first object is used as the base
point and the relative arrangement of the objects is kept.
  • There is no cut function. Use the “Copy Command” and the “Delete Command” instead.
  • When you have already typed text in the input field of the command view, Ctrl+C works
as an ordinary text copy instead of starting this command.
